for Plums By Xidu In March, I
go out of town to the east countryside with an old
friend to see the plum’s blossom My heart is
abloom with the full mountain’s flowers We sit till
dusk, drinking, fluting, chorusing with the gentle breeze In April, in
longing for the old friend I go to the
mountain, plucking a handful of green plums Sitting alone
with a pot of wine heating I get
intoxicated to the scent of plums and wine In May, the
plums are ripe and seen everywhere in the mountain While in town
I can’t hear from the friend from anywhere My longing is
the incessant monsoon rain Overflowing
the riverbanks In June,
harvest season for plums My yearning
engulfs the whole mountain green O, the vast
ocean of forgone green Surges with
our avid waiting for you and me Alas, the
Bell Mountain In which my
